Smartphone camera explained

After witnessing hell lot of confusion and misconception of the commoners regarding the smartphone camera I can’t stop myself from writing this post which says “Smartphone camera explained“. I hope that some readers who will go through this post will clear their wrong notion that if their camera possesses more megapixels they will get better quality pictures. I am sorry to disappoint you this is definitely not the criteria of a better cameraphone.
Now a days all the smartphone company does their marketing by bragging about the numbers. They will offer you a smartphone with high features but at very low price. e.g, you will get a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor, 13 MP Primary Camera, 4.7-inch AMOLED Capacitive Touchscreen Android smartphone at around Rs 10000 only. Now this will capture buyers attention & he will think that at this range he can’t get any better smartphone and his passion of getting good clicks is now coming into reality. But megapixels is not the only criteria of a good camera.

A good cameraphone, for starters must have a good processor. You can see the quality of rebranded-in-india smartphone images versus the clicks of Nokia Lumia 1020, Xperia Z series, HTC One. (Sorry i do not consider Samsung’s image quality at par with Nokia Lumia, HTC, Xperia Z series because of the poor outputs which can be observed only when the image is opened in the computer. ) After the image is clicked its the processor who does some processing and thus processor is also important.

Next is the quality of lens. If you do not know about it at all. Remember the name CARL ZEISS LENS. They are the best lens makers. Buy a cameraphone which says that it has Carl Zeiss lens.

Sensor size is hugely responsible for image quality. The size of sensor that a camera has ultimately determines how much light it uses to create an image. In very simple terms, image sensors consist of millions of light-sensitive spots called photosites which are used to record information about what is seen through the lens. Therefore, it stands to reason that a bigger sensor can gain more information than a smaller one and produce better images.smartphone-sensors.
